Advances in Technology Make Solar Powered LED Lights An Appealing Lighting Solution
There are many more uses to solar LED lights than them just being a decorative way to light up an outdoor area. They are finding uses in security lighting, parking lots in shopping centers, and are even being used to illuminate parks at night. With advances in manufacturing techniques and efficiency, solar LED technology can just about replace any lighting product in existence today. With their long life and energy efficiency, there has never been a more environmentally friendly way to light up our lives.
The Basics Of LED Technology Used In Solar Lighting
LED is an acronym for Light Emitting Diode. LEDs are very small, so a multitude of them are installed in rows or circular patterns and connected to an electrical circuit. As electrons move through a specially formulated semi-conductor into the LED, it causes them to lose energy. The energy they lose is emitted as photons, which we see as light. As there is very little heat, and no filament to burn out, LEDs can last an incredibly long time. Many will have a useful life of up to 100,000 hours, which is a big improvement over the average of 1 to 3,000 hours for the typical filament bulb. The fact that light emitting diodes can create a large amount of light for a small amount of energy expenditure means they are perfect for use in solar power applications.
The Many Benefits Of Solar Powered LED Lights
The most apparent benefit of utilizing LED solar lights is the cost savings, both through energy efficiency and a long life expectancy. The fact that they cost next to nothing to operate after the initial purchase cost (which is slight higher than traditional bulbs), makes LED lights very appealing. Solar lighting is a very DIY friendly way to light up a garden path. As there is no wiring to worry about it makes installation costs virtually nil. This also means they can be installed anywhere where you need lighting.
Modern Advances in LED Solar Lighting
With each generation of LEDs hitting the market we see a major increase in the amount of light they can put out. Recently, they have even become powerful enough to replace the typical incandescent or fluorescent light found in most homes and businesses. Not only are we getting more brightness but also more colors. Some people who found the bluish tinge produced by LEDs of the past distasteful, now no longer need to worry. Color ranges in lights are measured in Kelvins (K), of which the typical halogen bulb will produce a Kelvin rating of 3000(K). LEDs are now capable of producing the same Kelvin (K) rating, or color, as to what people are used to from halogen bulbs. So using solar powered LEDs in the home is now a distinct possibility for many more people.
The use of solar powered lighting will continue to rise, with each new iteration of the technology producing longer life and brighter lights. The increasing range of colors, with greater energy efficiency, means that the use of LED lights is going to be more appealing than in previous years.
